Leadership Spotlight: Jamie Barron

For Jamie Barron, joining the family business wasn’t just a role. It was an opportunity to transform how New Source works. Since starting part-time in 2010, he has acquired new customers, expanded the company’s programs, and streamlined business operations.

Now the Vice President at New Source Corporation, Jamie said that when he started, he began to find small ways to increase efficiency without compromising quality. “I started seeing our procedures and processes and started to learn more about the business. I saw where we could increase our efficiencies by improving processes and operations.”

Jamie started learning everything he could about the administrative areas of the business, including paperwork, accounting, sales, and order processing. He continued to attend school while he worked, sometimes even taking business calls during class. He graduated from the University of Central Florida in 2014, after changing his major from computer science to business and hospitality to better meet the needs of his family’s business.

Committing to His Role at New Source

Over the past 15 years, he’s made additional improvements like stocking and holding metallic aerospace materials for customers. New Source purchases the materials in bulk at lower prices and doesn’t invoice customers until shipment. This allows customers to free up capital and reduce risk while benefiting from the savings.

Eventually, Jamie and his parents decided he should take over control of the company, and he started to pursue larger customers. New Source was already supplying one or two sites of a major prime contractor on a spot basis when he introduced himself to one of their representatives at a conference. Jamie knew that New Source needed to stand out in a sea of vendors, so he skipped the long line and thanked her for being one of their best customers. Though they weren’t yet a customer, the interaction gave Jamie an opening to pitch New Source. Jamie knew if given the opportunity, New Source could become a major supplier for this end user. His unorthodox approach led to an introduction to their raw material buyer.

After getting the initial order, the New Source team continued to prove themselves, leading to larger orders and other opportunities. Because of Jamie’s vision and leadership in growing the company’s client list and building strong teams, New Source is a recognized industry leader and trusted partner in even the most demanding aerospace programs.

Focusing on Quality and Relationships

Jamie meticulously revised how the company creates bids and contracts. This approach has helped secure multi-year contracts with top aerospace programs, allowing New Source to evolve from a small family business to a competitive aerospace materials provider.

“Treat everything as it’s important,” Jamie said, “whether it’s a small order, a contractual order, or any kind of customer. You never know what it can lead to.” Jamie’s focus on relationships, quality service, and attention to detail apply not only to customers but to those within the company.

Stephanie Barron is Jamie’s sister and Director of Marketing & Customer Relations at New Source. “Jamie really has such an incredible understanding of the industry as a whole, as well as of the materials. Whenever someone has a question, it doesn’t matter how busy he is—and truly, he is the busiest person at the company—he stops what he’s doing and takes the time to explain it. He understands how important it is for each person in our company to understand every minute detail. So, if you have a question, he’s the person you go to.”

New Source truly is a family business that invests in a welcoming work culture; whether that be company happy hours or the annual Halloween Contest. Jamie made a strong showing to this years Marvel theme as Tony Stark. Jamie attributes much of the company’s success to the employees and the camaraderie present in the office. “I love our team. It’s amazing. We’ve had the best people, and that’s what’s helped us get to where we are.”

Looking ahead, Jamie has more plans for New Source. “It’s been an amazing ride. I love it. I’ve been here 15 years, and I’ve always said I want to be here at least 50, so I’ve got 35 left in me.”

As New Source grows, Jamie’s leadership continues to shape how the company partners with customers for the long term.
